City Hotel Nieuw Minerva is housed in an authentic 16th century canal house, located on the bank of the Old Rhine in the heart of Leiden, within walking distance of shops, restaurants, museums and the central train station. The historical character can be found in the unique hotel rooms and suites. The rooms are decorated in a variety of styles.

The history of Hotel Nieuw Minerva starts in the year 1945. What then started as a cafe in a 16th century warehouse, has been expanded during the course of the years with six canal houses, and converted into a hotel with 38 unique rooms. The historic canal houses and buildings each have their own story to tell. For instance, did you know that J.R. Thorbecke, the father of the Dutch Constitution, used to live in one of the buildings? And that one of the rooms boasts a bed in which Louis Napoleon has slept?

We would very much like to welcome you in our restaurant, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner. In our bar we serve a selection of snacks as well as a variety of drinks.

Our traditional breakfast buffet ensures you have a good start to the day. The breakfast buffet costs  € 9 per person.
